Export to PDF and JPG creates off-center documents

I'm using Illustrator CS, and have saved documents to PDF (v.6) and JPG format so I can get them printed at Kinko's.

Illustrator saves all the elements just fine, but the contents all shift, so my PDFs and JPGs don't print properly.

I want my PDF and JPG documents to be aligned exactly as they appear in Illustrator. How do I do this?

Hit [Ctrl]+[Y] and see if you can find any random objects outside the print area.

I often have to do the same to create proofs for clients. Im not using illustrator CS though, im on 9, but the only 'problem' i have when saving as pdf is if i have my document size set to something different then the dimensions i want to export too, and/or, when my drawing isnt aligned on the workspace (the thick black rectangle). Illustrator, at least in my version, only saves your workspace as a pdf regardless of where your drawn elements appear. If they are in the workspace and fit it should work.

Succes!

You should be able to crop the image wherever it is and PDF it.

I don't want to crop it. It prints exactly the way I want it as an Illustrator file.

But Kinko's can't handle Illustrator files. So I made PDFs. The PDFs come out off-centered. I don't know why they come out off-centered.

I want my PDFs to align on the page the same way my Illustrator files align on the page. The problem is, Illustrator creates PDFs that don not align properly. I am trying to solve that problem.

Bob,

What I meant was to put crop marks round the image you want in your PDF: choose the area by creating a rectangle and make crop marks (Alt+O+K+M in AI10).

Jacob, I'm an Illustrator novice and thus did not realize you and others were on the right track with your suggestions.

While examining my 11 x 17 document in outline mode, I can see bounding boxes that extend well into the space around the document. So before I can create my PDFs, my task will be figuring out how to crop that extra space out of my document.

Thanks for hanging in there with me.

Cropping my workspace solved the problem. I can now export PDFs and JPGs with the proper alignment.

Note to Adobe: Shouldn't "crop workspace" appear as an option in the File | Export menu?

Thanks again to all.

But how would it know where you wanted to crop? When you've got so many functions I guess they can't all be right in front of you.

Glad you're sorted. :)
