I pretty much said it in the title - this has been an ongoing problem and I've finally narrowed it down to Illustrator - doing research I found that the temp files build up and that's what is most likely causing my repeated blue screens of death - I cannot find the folder that is holding the temp files.. can someone possibly HELP ME!! I'm running CS1 on Windows XP
Thank you!! Debbie

I want to add something else - I've found a temporary fix - but it's annoying and time consuming. I've been trashing my preferences file every ten docs I open up. I'm working on a high volume production job and have multiple windows open while I'm working.. you get the picture? :) Would reinstalling AI fix my problem?

Debbie,

Have you tried a search for TEMP?

This is an answer from Steve from about a year and a half ago:

This may be a red herring, but there is a known problem with Acrobat Pro
6 (not the reader) where a multitude of temp files are created in the
Local Settings\Temp folder under your profile (they start with "acr"),
and when they reach 64K in number, Illustrator crashes. If this is the
case, delete the files and upgrade Acrobat. For that matter, delete all
temp files. steve

Some similar problems have been solved by:

1. Uninstalling Acrobat (6 or 7 have created problems),
2. Emptying the AITEMP folder,
3. Moving all fonts out of the Fonts folder and reinserting them in groups (to get rid of a corrupt font),
4. Changing the printer driver (if applicable from network to local).

Always include hidden files and folders in your search.

I do not know about reinstalling.

I or others may come up with more suggestions; but this is a tough issue.

Thanks Steve - I actually just had a crazy thing happen while trying to print - "problem with SpoolerSubSystemApp needs to close) someone suggested a bad driver... sooooo ... I removed the epson printer software and I'll reinstall it - I'm currently unistalling all my adobe products - and going to reinstall - I'll see if there are any temp files left over after deleting the programs.. you know I just thought of something - I've been getting this error message whenever I make a pdf (many times daily) about updating - telling me to restart Acrobat.. but I just click through it and go on.. hmmm you are probably onto something here! Thank you! I'll post and let you know what is happening. many thanks!

Right you are, Bert. And now it is too late to turn back the time.

Debbie, as Steve was about to say, Acrobat should probably be reinstalled last.
